In the summer of 1983, I had my first “God encounter.” I suffered a motorcycle accident, but one very different than normal. It was a late, dark evening when I was riding down a back street to my home. Speeding through an intersection, I was hit by a truck.
Immediately, I heard God speak with detailed instructions on how I could survive the accident. At the moment of impact everything slowed down, as if I were watching a movie in slow motion. God then asked me a question, “Do you want to live?” I responded, “YES!” He then said, “Grab the truck’s bumper so you don’t go the way of your motorcycle.” My motorcycle went under the truck and was completely mangled. Next, God said “Tuck your chin to your chest so your head doesn’t bang against the concrete.” The last words I remember hearing were, “Pray the truck doesn’t run into anything.” The truck then rolled to a stop. The entire incident took only seconds, and I was alive. It was a miracle!
That word from God would be the first of many “Kingdom moments” I would have in the coming years. I can recall often hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit as if He were sitting on my shoulder. “He would point out people He wanted me to talk to or specific things He wanted me to do for Him.” I always try to remember the secret to experiencing God’s miracles. It’s simple: “Listen to His voice and do what He says.” Jesus is dying to reveal himself to his sons and daughters in His great redemptive plan to reach a world still waiting to be found.
Are you hungry for a fresh encounter with God? Do you long to hear His voice? Have you ever read through the gospels and the book of Acts and thought to yourself, “I want my life to look like the life of Jesus?” I have good news for you, IT CAN!
